Why the Democratic Party Has Concealed their Post-Mortem Report on the 2024 Race: A Deep Dive.

The move from the Democratic National Committee to withhold the public viewing of its own post-election analysis on the 2024 election appears remarkable but entirely predictable. Averse to frank assessments, the party's leadership apparatus often functions more like a communications shop than a political organization committed to cultivating a volunteer base for winning elections.

An Environment Resistant to Internal Critique

Hesitant to depart from the prevailing attitude of conformity, the committee has stayed within the influence of the previous administration throughout this past year. Publishing an official autopsy would have indicated whether party leaders truly desire to foster open debate about the errors that paved the way for the former president to win re-election. Yet, the committee is acting under the pretense that there are no lessons to be learned following the stunning loss of 2024.

"Here’s our North Star: is this good for winning elections? If not, it’s a distraction from our fundamental goal," a rationale that has been offered for withholding the report.

Major Failures an Analysis Would Have Examined

A genuine analysis of substance would confront key points of failure. This encompasses:

  • Voter Alienation: Losing of millions of voters who supported the Democratic ticket during the previous election became a critical factor during the tight recent race.
  • A Choice to Run: The stubborn choice by the incumbent to seek re-election, alongside an extremely delayed withdrawal, is seen by some as denying the party's base of open primaries.
  • Failing Everyday Americans: During a time of inflation, the campaign allegedly ceding to corporate donors' interests and not managing to challenge the effects of profit-seeking.
  • The Foreign Policy Effect: The failure to shift a stance on a ongoing war reportedly led to losing many voters, especially with young people, Arab-Americans, Muslim voters.
  • Eroding Youth Allegiance: Research indicates a significant drop-off of support for the party among the youth electorate.

A Record Avoiding Accountability

The decision to withhold fits a recurring tendency of sidestepping hard truths. It echoes a situation where the vast majority of elected Democrat in Congress acquiesced to a sitting president's determination to seeking another term until a catastrophic public debate performance led to a change.

Meanwhile, overwhelming numbers of the electorate were continually telling surveyors that they opposed that candidate to seek re-election.

Financial Issues

An honest autopsy could examine matters regarding campaign spending, such as how much money went to high-priced advisors and ad buyers during a campaign which expended a colossal amount during the general election.

The Underlying Problem

Fundamentally, the suppression surrounding this report points to a submission to party leaders responsible for an unsuccessful presidential campaign. The signal for rank-and-file members – including countless loyal volunteers – appears to be that they do not have a right to know the lessons the insiders say they discovered based on a report compiled from feedback from all states.

An organization unwilling to publicly examine its mistakes is unlikely to climb out of the pattern that proved so advantageous to the winning candidate.
